A Senior and a fan of hockey, Clarissa Htay is a new sports writer for Baron Banner. She will not only be making appearances in Baron Banner as a contributor, but also as the captain of Fountain Valleys’s girls tennis varsity team.

Clarissa loves sports and wants to pursue journalism in the near future. Her favorite hockey team is the Dallas Stars, and her favorite player is Tyler Seguin. In fact, she has already met him and has a signed hockey puck by him.

When Clarissa is not screaming at hockey games, she would most likely be found reading. She enjoys romance and among her favorites are Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.

Her favorite way to get around town is driving her Honda Accord, Ted. With the help of Ted, Clarissa can get to her favorite restaurant, Orange Sushi, in Orange, California. However, she loves all types of sushi from all different places.

Clarissa has a little brother, Preston, who often bugs her to change the channel and watch something other than Pretty Little Liars. She also loves the color, bright neon green.

Her dream is to travel across Europe on Ted, but for now she is excited to be apart of the 2016 – 2017 Baron Banner team.

On Wednesday Jan. 5, Fountain Valley’s varsity wrestling team destroyed and pinned the Oilers at their home mat with a final score of  70-9.

The Barons led the whole match with phenomenal pins and escapes.

Trenton Ching (‘18), Jack O’Donnell (‘19), George Sykes (‘17) and Phillip Cardoza (‘17) made some key pins throughout the night. Co-captain Karson Ayres (‘17), had a major pin that helped lead the Barons to victory.

Another co-captain Merrick O’Donnell (‘17) has hopeful prospects for the team, and believes the Barons can win another Sunset League title.

“Great start to the season. We can improve on some basic technique, but overall I see us doing great things,” he said.

Their next match is against Newport Harbor at home on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. The wrestling team looks forward to the support against the Sailors. Also, the big Five Counties Tournament is coming up from Friday, Jan. 13 – 15, 2017, so don’t miss out on some teams competing from across the country.
